An average Nigerian dog gets up to 4.33 ticks a day on every bush outing.Thats 30 ticks a week and 1560 ticks a year. So,the average canis familiaris has more dangers of indirectly infecting you with typhus. So? Rabbies comes into consideration again. From my research, rabbies(hydrophobia), is usually accompanied with extreme fear of water. A habit particularly common in a dog. Though, not all dogs have rabbies, most of 'em do not. A rabbies-infected dog will be aggressive, restless, sick and will definitely wanna bite you. It takes 7 days for a rabbies-infected dog to die. Its victim will accompany it to the underworld in no time if not given adequate medical attention. So,do ticks cause rabbies? No they don't. Ticks are parasites. Very lazy ones, they rely completely on sucking on a dog's blood and meat. Dangerous if too deep and can cause severe irritation, discomfort and sometimes madness for your dog. The solution to these? Try de-ticking your dog often if you live around the bush. Bath regularly in hot water and a trusted germicide. Try to curb your dog's outing urges and you would do fine. Rabbies... If you suspect rabbies, lock up your dog. In a cage or chains. If the dog dies after 7 days then you've been lucky. If not, even luckier. Dogs are great companions. Ama dog lover so i hope this was usefull.
